Aethstan of Wortham, Pelican.
Calligraphy and illumination by Lady Signe Sigurdsdotter. My first celtic scroll - I hate red dots! Copied from Gospels from Northumbria, eighth century. There are a couple of spelling mistakes in the text, but I left them since I thought it would be more ugly to try to remove them. Note the little Pelican and his nest in the words "Order of the Pelican". The scroll starts with "In these our letters patent..." - it is a bit hard to read. |
