The arms of Drachenwald

Drachenwald Order of Precedence

Welcome to this "Order of Precedence" (OP) for the Kingdom of Drachenwald.

This document is based on an older 1996 version that is loosely based on two older documents from 1991 and 1993. It is also based on a large number of old and not so old Dragon's Tales and recently also on the lists their Majesties send to the Posthorn Pursuivant when they step down.

So what is an OP and what is it good for? Firstly an OP is a list that ranks all people by precedence. In this case it ranks the people in the Kingdom of Drachenwald. The most important people, the King and Queen of Drachenwald, rank first, than the Dukes etc. All the way down to those who just received their first non-armigerous award. If two people rank alike it is seniority that counts. The person who got that rank first ranks higher.

The awards in the Drachenwald OP can be split in a few groups. We have 'society wide' awards like the peerages or the Award of Arms. Others are specific for Drachenwald, and they are given only in this Kingdom. Some of the awards listed were not given in this Kingdom but are there for historical reason, they are awards from other Kingdom's. Many of these are from the East Kingdom and were given to Drachenwalders by The King and Queen of the East. Drachenwald used to be a Protectorate and later a Principality of the East Kingdom. These awards where already part of the OP when I started to maintain it and I'd like to keep it like that.  A description of Drachenwald awards can be found here.

This OP, as it is now, is a list of awards given to members in the Kingdom of Drachenwald rather than an accurate list of who would rank where. As travellers come and go constantly, travelling from Kingdom to Kingdom, it is difficult to keep track of the people in Drachenwald and the awards they all have. Especially those awards received in other Kingdoms. So this OP is now ordered by name, rather than by rank.

It serves two important purposes, first of all it is a "Who-is-What" for our Kingdom. But it is also a valuable piece of our history. It tells us who has been awarded for their contributions to our Society the S.C.A. A lot of the people in these pages have left our shores, but they are still part of our legacy. Others are still around, being part of our present, as much as part of our past. This is a way of letting you all know who they were or are and when they were here, laying the foundations to our very own, unique Kingdom, Drachenwald.

Many have contributed to this OP: previous keepers of the OP, Court Heralds, Crowns and Coronets. But some I would like to mention by name and thank them for their contribution to this OP. Without them this would not have been possible. By "Order of Precedence" they are:
Earl Morgan de Grey
Mistress Honor of Restormel
Lord Sovany Barcsi Janos
Lady Hilde

In Service to the Crown, the Kingdom of Drachenwald and our Society,

Master Gerulf
Posthorn Pursuivant
Keeper of the Drachenwald Order of Precedence

Note: I would like to keep this quote from Earl Morgan de Grey, a previous Posthorn:
"Don't stack titles, it is not very period, for example: Earl, Viscount, Sir X von Y.... is not good usage. Rather use one title to preface the name and let the rest follow: Earl X von Y, Viscount, Knight of the Society...." Or perhaps use only the title that is most important in your current context.

When addressing someone and you are in doubt what title to use for someone and you have no time to look here… Lady or Lord is usually fine, if you think that is not sufficient because they wear a coronet, go for "Your Excellency", that is often fine. Do try to recognize our King and Queen though.

The OP is listed alphabetically.  If you are interested in the entire OP, you can download the MS Excel spreadsheet (282KB) here.  Otherwise, click on the link for the first letter in the person's name.
